Rosie Shields
born in the beautifully sometimes misunderstood city of Los Angeles, Ca.
What drives me is the idea that art can change the world. I believe in a very simple philosophy: "Every era is shaped, controlled and later portrayed in history via the arts. So we must create to leave our own footprint in history". Everything from love, death, the stars and childrens laughter inspires me to create. Art is needed to change the way children are raised and the way adults treat each other. My greatest motivation is to change and elevate the culture. Growing up in inner city Los Angeles I witnessed how art could be used as a driving force for people who suffer from a lack of resources. Watching people who had the ability to create something out of nothing inspired me to never set limits on myself. Our connection as humans to some higher source that created life from nothing flows through us and allows us to tap in and create from that same nothingness that lives within. A lot of my interest in the arts come directly from watching my older brothers and my mother do art in their spare time. I grew an immense interest in the fine arts during my senior year of High School. Once I began my studies in undergrad I found every major to be a bore and crammed my electives with anything art related. My love for art continued to grow and my need to please others dispersed so I ditched the long exams for long nights of creating. By the age of 20 I made a full commitment to the arts and I haven't looked back.
