Ashok Sharma

Ashok Sharma was born in Tanganyika (now called Tanzania), East Africa in 1949. His grandparents on both side of his family migrated to Africa from Punjab, India, in the 1920s. After graduating from high school in Tanzania, he studied at Woolwich College in Woolwich, London and medical school at the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine (ranked third by the QS World University Rankings for medical schools in 2019), graduating in 1975. Becoming a resident of Southern California in 1976, he specialized in anesthesiology at the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center, completing his residency in 1979. He was indoctrinated as a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology in 1984, qualifying him to be a consultant in anesthesiology.After retiring from 25 years of private group practice in anesthesiology and serving as chair of his department several times, he started a full-time career in real estate, which has remained his focus for the past 15 years. He developed a passion for writing two decades ago. His latest book, Out of the Third World, is a memoir of his time in England between 1967 to 1976.
