Gaby Koppel

After a long career in print and television Gaby Koppel turned to fiction, inspired by the story of her refugee mother. As a BBC producer, she'd created large-scale national events to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, experiences which immersed her into dark and difficult subject matter but also proved a turning point. She says, 'processing that material made me think a great deal about my own family and the horrors they endured but rarely spoke about.' Born in Cardiff in 1957, Gaby grew up in South Wales and studied English at Sussex University before becoming a trainee reporter on the Hastings & St Leonards Observer and becoming the proud author of a history of Hastings Pier. Reparation, her first novel, was runner up for the Society of Authors' Paul Torday Prize. He next book tells the strange as fiction true story of The Making of Psycho. It will be published by the White Owl imprint of Pen & Sword books in October 2026.
