Sandy DuClos Eckart

Sandy DuClos Eckart was born and raised in the same small southern Illinois town where she now lives. She has always loved to tell stories and is also an avid reader. She especially loved creative writing classes in high school and would often write stories outside the classroom setting. She has previously had one published work, a poem in an anthology of poetry.

Sandy has “worked with words” for most of her adult life, having spent 40 years of her working career in the Health Information field, first as a medical records secretary, and then for many years worked as a medical transcriptionist for various local and remote hospitals in the United States.

The idea to write Grandmother's Fan came to her as she began to repurpose a very worn quilt that she acquired at her grandmother's auction. It was stored inside an old trunk that belonged to her great-grandmother. The trunk held a treasure trove of mementoes which included the quilt. Her imagination of what the quilt might have been through in all the years it was used by her family gave her the idea to write Grandmother's Fan. The unique perspective of telling the story from the quilt's point of view gives the reader a first hand account of what it may have been like for the quilt to follow and participate in the family's lives.

Sandy and her husband of almost 40 years have three married children and six grandchildren. Besides writing, she loves to repurpose lost treasures into home décor, research family genealogy, and read books of various genre. Grandmother’s Fan is her first novel.
