Genevieve Carpio

Dr. Genevieve Carpio is an Associate Professor at UCLA in the Department of Chicana/o and Central American Studies. Previously, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of History and the Program for Ethnicity, Race, and Migration at Yale University.

Dr. Carpio’s research focuses on the ways place-making and mobility shape power in multiracial places. Her work is interdisciplinary, reflecting her training in ethnic studies (with a focus on Mexican Americans), 20th century urban history, and American Studies. She has a long-standing interest in the public and digital humanities, particularly as it related to the California Inland Empire where she was raised.
