My name is Alan Bignell and the first thing to point out is that I am not the Alan Bignell who writes books about the English Kent countryside. I am English and I do love the countryside but I'm very much an urban being. I live in London and I am, as the French like to put it, of a certain age.
My writing career initially was as a copywriter in various advertising agencies in the UK and Canada. There I wrote press ads, posters and TV and radio commercials for the likes of British Airways, Kellogs and GM.
Some twenty years ago I had a change of career and became an Alexander Technique teacher (it's to do with posture and improving the way we use ourselves in moving activities). While greatly enjoying this work, I have continued to involve myself in creative activities including mounting a photography exhibition, writing weekly blogs and most recently, publishing my first book.
