M.J. Keeley

Writing and reading have been life-long passions for me. I studied English Literature and Film & TV Studies at the University of Glasgow and am currently a full-time secondary school English teacher.

I write in various genres including speculative fiction, magic realism, literary fiction and non-fiction review writing. My main focus is novel-writing and my debut science-fiction novel, Turning the Hourglass, was released by Black Rose Writing in April 2019. I have also had short fiction published in various anthologies and magazines. In July 2019 I won the National Trust Scotland Morton Writing Competition in the Scots category for my story 'In Ma Heid' and in November 2020 my personal essay 'Clearing the Fog' was chosen for inclusion in the Scottish Book Trust's 'Future' anthology to celebrate Book Week Scotland.

My coming-of-age novel The Stone in My Pocket, will be published by The Conrad Press early 2021.

Other interests include: cinema, theatre, yoga, vegan cooking, travelling, attending my book group and cat-adoration. I live in Glasgow with my cats: Luna, Matilda, Astrid and Loki.
