Stuart Schrader

Stuart Schrader is the author of Blue Power: How Police Organized to Protect and Serve Themselves, forthcoming in 2026 from Basic Books, as well as Badges Without Borders: How Global Counterinsurgency Transformed American Policing, published by the University of California Press in 2019. He is Associate Professor of History at Johns Hopkins University, where he is also Director of the Chloe Center for the Critical Study of Racism, Immigration, & Colonialism. Schrader received his Ph.D. in American Studies from New York University. His writing has appeared in American Quarterly, The Baffler, Boston Review, Jacobin, Journal of Urban History, Harvard Design Magazine, Humanity, Modern American History, n+1, NACLA Report on the Americas, the New Republic, the Washington Post, and elsewhere. In addition to research on racism, policing, counterinsurgency, US foreign relations, and radical social movements, he has written widely on underground music.
