Janette Byron Stone, award winning author and speaker, is the recipient of the 2022 Key West Writers Guild award for her work in progress “Prairie Lotus Flower,” the 2022 Military Writers Society of America silver medal award for her debut “Please Write: A Novel,” and the Florida Keys Writers Conference award for first page pitch.
Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, Janette is one of those restless Aussies who went walkabout as soon as she could. Hungry to know what the rest of the world had to offer, her dream was to teach in different countries and cultures. She had no idea her venture would lead her to the Canadian prairie to raise her family and then to the United States, permanently sealing her fate to live on the other side of the Pacific Ocean. Proud to call herself a citizen of three magnificent countries, she has never forgotten the privilege of growing up in the city with the world’s most beautiful harbor.
Janette received a master’s degree in elementary curriculum and a bachelor of education degree in secondary music from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. Her degrees were preceded by a diploma in teaching from Alexander Mackie College, Sydney, Australia,.
Other publications include "Gifts from Time and Place" a collection of short stories, essays, and vignettes portraying the resilience of the human spirit, and "Alexis' Island: Growing up in the Tropical Paradise of Key West," a co-authored children’s book showcasing Key West through the eyes of a ten-year-old boy living on a sailboat.
When the northwest mountains begin to chill, she and her husband Tom migrate to the tropical southeast.
