Howdy! If you are here, it's because you probably want to know a little bit about me, so here goes...
First off, I'm a husband, father, writer, bad home repair man, and worse joke teller.
From an early age, I wanted to be a writer. In high school, I even convinced a teacher to do an independent study on how to become a published author; which only served to make my Dad think I should be a lawyer.
The independent study went well, but was soon forgotten. After finishing school, I got a job in the real world and made some money. Not tons of money, but enough to forget about my dreams.
A decade plus later, I remembered. Comically, in an actual dream.
And now here I am, trying to fulfill that old old dream made new again. And in doing so, a question arose; what to write about?
My first book, seemed the most logical one. I'm a happy person. Apparently, to most people, a confusingly happy person. At least once a week somebody says "Josh, why are you always so happy?" After telling them my secret (finding joy in bad jokes)(and no, I'm not actually serious about the bad jokes part), they usually tell me I should write a book about it.
"Well, if 86 people think I should, maybe I should," I figured.
So I did. And wonderfully, I've gotten a good response, but then I found myself sitting there, thinking, what now?
I found my inspiration when thinking about my favorite teacher. He would tell these stories, sometimes long, sometimes short. Usually, they were complicated. If you paid attention, they were so rich, and so detailed, that if you understood half of them, you would be amazed. And no matter what, there was always a lesson.
His stories were rich, but they weren't fluff. They were entertaining, but not just entertaining. They were interesting, but they did something. They did more. They taught you things. It was great.
I'm about thirty thousand leagues below him, maybe more, but one of the great things about us humans is that we all have had different lives, and that means that we all have our own unique experiences that can teach us; and we can share them. And we should share them.
Having found my inspiration, it was time to write stories. Stories that were intriguing. Stories that entertained. Stories that, if I did my job right, you would have trouble putting down. And, if I could do any honor to my teacher, stories that taught something, and helped make the world a better place.
I try (and often fail) to live life by the motto "love constantly". I write, to be loving. That means that sometimes I will be encouraging, and sometimes I may be harsh, but it will always come from a position of love.
When writing this, I was told to tell my readers what I want them to know, and it's really this simple... Life has meaning, and so should our conversations.
