David Halpin

All you have to do is read the title and the introduction of David’s first book.

David is battling Depression (frequently losing) and he "suffers from Autism", "has Autism", "is Autistic" (HFA, Asperger’s), however you would like it phrased. His writing gives a small insight into his very strict and unforgiving point of view on “Life”.

Initially writing was a useful tool to escape the troubles in his life, then it became an avoidance crutch. David is still very much avoiding life, and he only offers his writing to you to silence the encouragement from family, peers, and medical professionals. His writing describes his emotional extremes and how events in his history have moulded his sad woe-is-me reality.

There are excuses, reasons, explanations, very dark humour, insightful observations, with a smattering of pop culture and literary references. It generally shows how witty, smart, stupid, vain and sad he is.

Apart from David, the topics range through: Relatives, Friends, Strangers, Enemies, Everybody, Nobody / Science, Fiction, Science Fiction / Colour, Black and White / Flora, Fauna / Heroes (Super & Every Day) / Music, Silence / Religion, Life, Death, Good, Evil, Love, Hate, Heart, Soul / Living, Existing / Time, Future, Present, Past / Right, Wrong / Alone, very Alone / Senses (Common & Taste, Smell, etc.) / Treatment (In & Out of) Hospital, Psychiatrists, Psychologists / Sadness, Depression / Sympathy, Empathy / Confusion, Learning, Forgetting, Memory, Thinking, Hopes, Dreams / Obsessions, Habits / Realism, Pessimism / Crying, Laughing / Arguments, Alphabet, Cars, Alcohol, Travel Weather / Everything, Nothing / many, many Questions and Poetry (funnily enough).

His writing is able to annoy, intrigue and offend everyone.

He can make "people" Cry, Laugh, Think, Compare and then Cry again.

David was born on Valentine’s Day 1968, in Fairfield, NSW. Grew up, or at least grew older, in Taree. Educated without much effort on his part, culminating with a Bachelor of Computer Science from Newcastle University.

He worked as a drone in the Banking system, saving many people’s money from the Y2K bug, then in Insurance, making sure people paid as much as was appropriate for their coverage. Escaping the mundane, he went to work in the Defence industry in Australia, and then in the Immigration and Security world of the Middle East.

During this time he met various people, married one of them, had two beautiful children, and became divorced. Making sure everything was done in the correct order.

Following on from yet another failed relationship, too much stress at work, and general unhappiness, he found himself inside a “facility”. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s nest is a fairly accurate documentary. It was there that he took to writing all about himself.

Dredging up previous attempts at poetry, documenting his downfall, making many errors along the way to “recovery”, he found another avenue for failure... thus was born a “nobody”.
