Capt. John

John C. Wright, best known in the trades as Capt. John, was born in Texas. He graduated from Terrell High School, and attended Tarleton State, Dallas Baptist College and graduated from East Texas State Teacher's College, now a branch of Texas A&M. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam as an Officer and Helicopter Pilot.

Immediately after returning home from the Military, Capt. John along with his friend Terry Richards made his first voyage around America's Great Loop in 1971. That was long before the Loop even had a name, and before GPS, Chartplotters, the Internet, Cellphones, Solar Panels, and many other great technology was available.

After a 25-year career, Capt, John retired as a Senior Executive for Honeywell Information Sytems, Boston, MA. Upon retirement, Capt. John was cruising America's Great Loop again, and again, and again. To date, he has nine-Loops under his keel, two of which were made with his son John Jr. Capt John has three (now adult) kids, John, Steven, and Amie. John Jr., has made three Great Loops with his Dad. One in the same boat, and two additional Loops cruising along together, each in their own boat.

In 2019 with the publication of Capt. John's #1 Best Selling & Book of the Year, "The Looper's Companion Guide", Capt. John admitted criuising the Loop was no longer on his 'bucket list' as it has become his way of life. At 72-yrs of age, he tells us he still has another Loop or two to go, before he drops his anchor permanently somewhere in paradise.
