Dr A.K. Lohani is currently serving as a Scientist G in the Surface Water Hydrology Division of National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee and as Training Coordinator of World Bank Aided National Hydrology Project. He has also served as Head Computer Centre of National Institute of Hydrology and Training Coordinator of World Bank Aided Hydrology Project-II. He did his B.Tech. from G.B. Pant University of Agril. & Technology, Pantnagar, (UK), M.Tech. from I.I.T., Kharagpur and Ph.D. from I.I.T., Roorkee. His area of specialization is Surfae Water Modelling with a focus on rainfall-runoff modelling, Flood Management, Dambreak Flood Analysis, Glacial Lake Outburst Modelling (GLOF), Flood Forecasting, Design Flood estimation, Application of Soft Computing Techniques in Water Resources.
Dr Anil Kumar Lohani is a recipient of the United Nation Development Programme Fellowship and worked as visiting faculty at San Diego State University, CA, USA. He has received The Hem Prabha S.N. Gupta Medal, 2000, from The Institution of Engineers (India), Certificate of Merit for 2001-2002 from the Institution of Engineers (India), best paper award on the paper presented in International Conference on Role of Infrastructure for Sustainable Development (2012), Institution of Engeneers (I), Roorkee, best paper award on the paper presented in National Conference on Hydrology with Special Emphasis on Rain Water Harvesting (NCHRWH-2013), Nov 15-16, 2013 at Poornima Group of Institutions, Jaipur (Rajasthan). He is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Current World Environment, and has been a member of several state and national committees dealing flood management, water resources planning etc. His areas of professional consultancy include Dambreak flood analysis & Emergency Action Plan, GLOF Modelling, Design Flood estimation, Flood Forecasting, Water Resources Planning & Management, Decision Support System etc. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) and Indian Association of Hydrologists. He has completed a number of consultancy and sponsored projects, Guided number of M.Tech and Ph.D. students organized a number of training courses for the Researchers, faculty members and water resources practicing engineers. Dr. Lohani visited USA, Norway, Denmark and The Netherlands for scientific works. Dr Lohani has also served as President NIH Recreation Club from 2004 to 2014. Apart from this Dr Lohani also likes to write poems and articles in Hindi and English.
