Jeff Zycinski was born in 1963, the seventh son of a Polish sailor who settled in Scotland after the Second World War. He grew up in Glasgow's Easterhouse, housing estate and was educated at schools and colleges in Glasgow and then at University College, Cardiff.
He began his career as a News reporter at Moray Firth Radio in Inverness and then at Radio Clyde in Glasgow. He joined the BBC in 1993 and rose to become the Head of Radio, responsible for commissioning and scheduling programmes on BBC Radio Scotland
The Red Light Zone: An Insider's laugh 'n' tell of BBC Radio, is Jeff's light-hearted and affectionate account of his career and includes stories from his time in Hollywood interviewing stars such as Jay Leno, Gregory Peck and Ed Asner.
Jeff's previous writings have included a daily blog for the BBC website (still available as archived content) and the radio play 'Stuck' which imagined the story of Scottish entertainer Johnny Sellotape, an alias Jeff adopted when performing stand-up comedy.
