John W Ingalls

John W Ingalls MD is a small-town family physician in northwestern Wisconsin. He lives in the same area settled by his great-great-great grandparents, Lansford and Laura Ingalls who are grandparents to the famed and beloved author, Laura Ingalls Wilder. He has worked as a traveling bird-feeder salesman (failed miserably), a chimney sweep (marginal success) and a truck driver for a building supply company before going back to school to pursue a medical degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. When he was 18 years old, he started writing freelance magazine articles and through sheer will and effort he was successful at being published. However writing at that level wasn't paying the rent. After many years of rural family practice, he was invited to write a weekly column for a regional newspaper, entitled "Cold Turkey". It was a raging success and many of those columns were compiled into two volumes. But the fiction bug didn't hit until late one night, at 30,000 feet when returning from a vacation in Mazatlan Mexico. It was then, when the fiction bug took a big bite and didn't let go. Since then he has written 3 novels and is working on 2 others. He feels writing fiction is akin to having multiple personalities, a controlled mental disorder without the medications.
