Elliot Udell is an actor and writer in New York. From two months of age through early adulthood he spent every summer at his grandparents small resort in Monticello, NY. He has performed at the Magnet and UCB theaters in New York City as well as regional theaters on Long Island.
Up till now his writing has been devoted to medical issues and he has written for several journals as well as lectured on pain management in the lower extremity.
His most recent fictional work, is titled "Monticello: A borscht Belt Catskills Tale." Elliot worked on this project for over five years. It is a fictionalized memoir and takes place when the Catskill resort empire was in its heyday. At that period in time Jewish people from every walk of religious and secular life vacationed in the more than 600 hotels and 10,000 bungalows and rooming houses known as the Borscht Belt. The books main plot deals with a magic trick performed at a hotel which went horrendously wrong and a little girl went missing. The underlying themes however are the winds and social currents that would ultimately bring an end to that empire. Other underlying sub plots are the various levels of bigotry in the community in spite of the fact that so many of the patrons were holocaust survivors. A third subplot is how the economic sociological trends gave way to the most famous rock concert/ protest rally known as the Woodstock Festival.
