Patrick Elwood

Elwood entered medicine before the discovery of the double helix and neurosurgery before computed tomography and microsurgery. He participated in the formation of a medical school, residencies in neurology and neurosurgery, and the Illinois Neurological Institute. Application of artificial intelligence to improving care of major neurological illness is a major interest. Attracting talented enthusiastic young people to neuroscience careers remains a passion.

Dr. Elwood is Professor Emeritus of Neurosurgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. He was the founding Professor and Head of the Neurosurgery Department and the founding CEO of the Illinois Neurological Institute.
