Vondalene Howe

Hi!

Thank you for checking out my first published book. Writing it has been a labor of love and I truly hope you’ve enjoyed it. You might like to know a bit more about me. So here goes.

My friends call me Vondi and I’m more likely to answer to that than to Vondalene. I’m a grandma living with my daughter and son in law in New Mexico. From the cover you’ve probably already seen how much I love this land and its people.

I grew up in Ohio where my parents gave me a connection to the early ways of farming and housekeeping. Many of the methods I describe in my book I learned from them and my grandparents. My father traded body work in his auto shop for my first horse when I was three years old. My first dog was tied to the back door to entertain me as soon as I was able to sit up in a high chair. So you see how the love of horses and dogs influenced my story.

I attended Ohio State University for my degree in Elementary Education. Since then I’ve completed several post graduate courses but never taken the time to pursue a post grad degree. I taught for a year in Ohio before moving to New Mexico to teach in a mission school. That is where I learned to love the land.

My husband was a Navajo and I am very close to the culture and my Navajo family. I have two children who are as proud of their heritage as I am. Their father passed away when they were very young and I made a special effort to keep them close to their family here in New Mexico. My son moved his family here about 12 years ago and my daughter moved here with her husband almost four years ago. I, of course, came with them.

So here I am. Living in New Mexico and writing stories for fun
