D Patrick

The Author is a retired military officer having started out his career sailing around the world as a deck officer in the Merchant Marine. After his ship nearly sank during an unexpected storm, he experienced - first hand - the contributions made by the men and women of the United States Coast Guard. Shortly after volunteering for Operation Desert Storm, where he transported multiple military cargoes to the Persian Gulf, he transitioned to the Coast Guard - serving for more than two decades, and eventually retiring with the rank of Captain. While serving on assignment in Alaska, the author, and his family fell in love with the Last Frontier and eventually retired there. Always the avid outdoorsman, the author has successfully led fly-in caribou hunts hundreds of miles north of the Arctic Circle, black bear and grizzly bear hunts in south-central Alaska, fly-in moose hunts in remote sections of western Alaska, and spent nearly a month slogging loads up and down the Alaska Range while fulfilling his lifelong dream of climbing Denali (Mt. McKinley).
