Diane Alméras

Diane Alméras was born in Québec, Canada, in 1957, where she studied Political Science and French Literature. She started her career as a journalist and literary critic, before moving to New York in 1982 to work for the United Nations as an assistant editor. In 1990, she joined the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, where she contributed to numerous studies on gender equality, violence against women and the rights of people with disability. Now retired from the UN, she lives in Chile with her family and dedicates herself to writing and activism. She periodically publishes short fiction and is presently working at her third novel. She presides the Committee of Persecuted and in Prison Writers Committee of PEN Chile and participates to the Writers in Prison Committee of PEN International.
