Dr. James A Calaway, DM

Personal/Professional Biography

J, was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa on October 26th, 1965 to Albert and Beverly Calaway. His father was an Ordained minister. His family moved to Springfield, Missouri in 1982 where he met Vicki Goss and they have been together ever since. He graduated from Central Bible College in 1988 with a B.A. in Bible, moved to Hammond, Indiana in 1989, earned a Masters in Biblical Literature from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary. In 2015 he earned a Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership from University of Phoenix-School of Advanced Studies.

Dr. J is 53 years of age and has been married for 34 years to Vicki (Goss) Calaway. Together they have 3 Children: Nathan married to Carly who has given us three grandchildren (Haley May, Lincoln, Ruby Jay); Brittany married to Dustin Wells; and Victoria married to Jonathon Shawver who has given us twin granddaughters (MiCali and MiKayla). All are in vocational ministry.

Dr. J enjoys playing golf and tennis, running and bike riding. His hobbies include politics, and triathlons. Together with his wife, Vicki, live in Munster, Indiana and are lead pastors of The Gate. They have served the Gate for over 30 years. The Gate is a multi-site, multi-ethnic church with five campuses.

J, through the non-profit company, InnerMission, oversees many different programs including, an after school program, feeding programs, residential housing programs, internship program, and counseling centers. InnerMission has also overseen a Teen Challenge (Adolescent boys) recovery residential center, Day Cares, a retreat center, camping programs and an alternative school.
