Barbara Combs Williams

Barbara Combs Williams is a Georgia peach, a natural part of the south. She is unapologetically old school and proud of it.

She was raised on a farm in middle Georgia and turned to reading anything and everything as a means of escape from farm life. She has a degree in marketing from Georgia State University that she has never used until now. She came to writing late in life but is making up for lost time.

Why I write -

It started in college when my English Lit professor gave me a ‘C’ on my paper on a Shakespeare play. He told me I had no imagination and didn’t know how to write with passion or depth.

I took that rejection to heart. What else was a 19 year old Black southern girl to do. That was a tenured professor, he must know what he was talking about. So I thought.

I never wrote another word until depression hit me dead on at the age of 50. Uncommunicative, my husband fed up with me said....if you can’t say out loud what is bothering you, then write it down. Those simple words were the catalyst that saved me and started me on this journey.

I write so others know they are not alone. I write to let others know I have been in their shoes. I write to tell my story of survival so others can have hope of survival also. I write to help myself and others who may read my words. I write because I have to.

I write everything my characters tell me to write. They speak to me and compel me to tell you their story.

Barbara has several books on Amazon starting with her first publication, Soul Catcher, a dark gothic poem. The Color Of Your Tears, a contemporary women’s fiction novel, features the Mattock family. The second book in the Mattock family saga is Crystal Clear. Soon to be released is the third book in this saga, entitled The Darkest Grey. Last but not least is a children’s book, Leighanne Abigail Hortense Packracker.
