Dr. Brian Moench

Dr. Brian Moench is a physician in private practice and a former faculty member of Harvard Medical School. His environmental expertise includes a former adjunct faculty position at the University of Utah Honors College, teaching public health and the environment.

Dr. Moench was nominated by Pres. Obama as a finalist for the Award, Champion of Change, for his work on public health and the climate crisis in 2013. He is the president and founder of Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment, (UPHE). Since 2007 UPHE has become the largest civic organization of medical professionals in the Western US who are actively engaged in many environmental battles throughout the country and Western Canada.

Dr. Moench has appeared on national television like MSNBC and Fox Business Chanel, to discuss the relationship between neonatal death and pollution from fracking. He has been quoted in numerous national newspapers, appears regularly on local television and radio programs in Utah, discussing the health consequences of air pollution, and is well recognized by the Utah public as an expert on air pollution and health. He gives dozens of lectures a year on numerous issues related to environmental contamination. He has testified as an expert witness in environmental lawsuits.

On a lighter note, Dr. Moench grew up the child of extensive brain washing and corruption by MAD Magazine. Still under its formative influence as an adult, he became the creator and founder of a humorous greeting card company, In Your Face Cards, which sold 35 million cards over 11 years. As a physician, humorous cartoonist, and creator of In Your Face Cards, CNN did a personal profile on him in the late 1990s. His irreverence and sarcasm is scientifically sprinkled through out his writings.

Dr. Moench is a thorn in the side of state and federal government, industrial polluters, oil and gas drillers, wood burners, climate deniers, purveyors of “fake news” and perpetrators of corporate malfeasance.
