Alan James Strachan, Ph.D., is a psychotherapist, teacher, and author. He graduated summa cum laude with an interdisciplinary degree in psychology, anthropology, and spiritual traditions, then earned two M.A. degrees and a Ph.D. in psychology. He has been in private practice for more than forty years and served for nine years as Staff Counselor at SRI International.
For decades, Alan has explored the interface of psychology and spirituality, teaching in university, corporate, and professional settings, including the Association for Transpersonal Psychology and the Nondual Wisdom and Psychology conferences. A long-time meditation practitioner, his work integrates nonduality with psychotherapy as spiritual practice, with particular interest in how psychology, spirituality, and politics shape human consciousness and society.
Alan is the co-author of When Mastery Bows to Mystery, The Lure of the Ring, and Mindell’s Process-Oriented Psychology. He and his wife, Janet Coster, publish the Substack newsletter H. Dumpty, After the Fall.
When not writing or teaching, Alan enjoys nature, friendship, laughter, and yelling at the TV during the NBA finals.
