Elizabeth is an international energy lawyer with a passion for optimizing natural resources in the developing world. She is a Harvard Law School graduate and started her career as a tax lawyer with the New York law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges. She operated her own legal and government relations firm in Trinidad and Tobago focused on energy and international development negotiations.
She also served as a Senator in the Parliament and an energy diplomat for her native country of Trinidad and Tobago. During her public service, she was the author of a weekly newspaper political column which ran for two years.
In addition to her legal career, which served as the foundation for her professional activities, Elizabeth has several businesses which relate to her family’s heritage.
Elizabeth is a second generation of the Mannette family, the premier name linked to the invention of the musical steelpan / steel drums of the Caribbean. Family patriarch, Ellie Mannette (1927 -2018), is known as the Father of the Modern Steel Drum, having spent almost 75 years making the world’s best instruments, prized by top bands, performers and artistes.
In the steelband world, Elizabeth has advised entrepreneurs, nonprofits, arts groups of community steelbands in New York and Trinidad, managed a youth band playing rock music on steel drums, and produced a music CD for a one of the oldest steelbands in the world, the Shell Invaders Steel Orchestra in Trinidad. In 2000, pre-iTunes, Spotify and Pandora, she built the first website with 24/7 streaming steelband music –StrumOn.com, to bring the music to a global audience.
Elizabeth also designs and operates a creative studio, Liz Mannette LLC, offering a line of elegant, stylish jewelry and fashion accessories, music and entertainment events, and media and gaming brands. As an author, Create Your Garden of Eden was the result of her search for a system to make sense of her own world. She realized that we can all fulfill the dreams within us by patterning the Creator.
