Thane Kreiner Ph D

Thane Kreiner, Ph.D., was born in 1961 near Seattle, Washington and grew up as the middle of three boys in the Deep South, Seattle, Alaska, and Texas, where he went to high school. After completing his undergraduate degree in chemistry from University of Texas at Austin, he earned a Ph.D. in Neurosciences from Stanford University School of Medicine, then completed a postdoc in molecular and cellular biology, winning a Damon Runyon-Walter Winchell fellowship. He returned to Stanford to earn his MBA before joining Affymetrix from 1993 - 2007, a pioneer in DNA chip technology that enabled whole genome analysis to advance biomedical research. Dr. Kreiner founded several life sciences companies, including iPierian, a regenerative medicine company based on induced pluripotent stem cells; Presage, a cancer drug discovery firm in Seattle; and Second Genome, a microbiome analysis company. Since 2010, Dr. Kreiner has led Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship at Santa Clara University as Executive Director and Howard and Alida Charney University Professor, and serves as a Board Member for Conservation X Labs. Dr. Kreiner is an avid SCUBA diver, swimmer, and yoga practitioner. He and his husband live in Sebastopol, California and practice permaculture on their property, growing most of their own food.
