Stephen Rusiniak

One of my favorite authors, James A. Michener, said this of his craft: “I love writing. I love the swirl and swing of words as they tangle with human emotions.” Me too.

Writing for me is about committing my thoughts to paper; it's about sharing what I've written and moving the reader.

However, I didn't always feel this way because, for most of my life, I wasn't a writer. I was a cop.

I credit my former profession for affording me opportunities to speak publicly on issues that dealt with juvenile and family matters, thus necessitating the need to craft relevant speeches that were both entertaining as well as informative. And honestly, had I not been a cop, it's doubtful that I’d be writing today.

My work has appeared in various newspapers, magazines, and book anthologies including several in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, and now includes three children’s books written by my wife, Karen and me!

"Gary the Goose Belonged" is about how inclusion champions exclusion and where being different too often means being excluded.

"Jenny Cut Her Hair and Everybody Wondered Why” is about two good kids doing good things who teach us that “Sometimes heroes have hair, and sometimes, they don’t.”

"Harry's Gone" gently shares this simple truth: Everyone and everything that is living, whether plants or animals, people or pets, will one day die. Our "Harry" story supports children dealing with loss and fosters meaningful family discussions.

We hope your children, grandchildren, and even you like our stories and their intended messages!
