Dr. Jacob Mathew Jr.

Jacob Mathew, Jr. is from Hudson, OH and holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Zoology with a minor in Statistical Methods from Miami University in Oxford, OH. He co-founded Phi Delta Epsilon medical fraternity and participated in multiple other medical organizations on campus. In college, he founded a website design company that was featured in local media throughout Cincinnati, Ohio. He earned his degree in osteopathic medicine from the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2012. In the United States Army he completed his internal medicine internship and residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in 2015. During residency, he served on nine hospital committees and was the only resident selected as the Army's Internal Medicine representative for the military's electronic record modernization project, which aimed to replace the current AHLTA EHR system. During his residency, he led three performance improvement projects, implemented three new hospital protocols, and authored eight publications. He authored the Intern Survival Guide, a 700+ page book available on Amazon, to aid fellow residents. The guide is now distributed to interns in both IM and FM residency programs at Tripler. He earned a certificate in Healthcare Simulation from the Naval Postgraduate School during his residency. He conducted research in Rheumatology, Infectious Disease, and Critical Care during his residency. He presented at six events in Hawaii, including three posters and three oral presentations. After completing residency in 2015, he became a flight surgeon for the 404th Aviation Support Battalion in the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Carson, Colorado, having completed the flight surgeon course at Fort Rucker, AL. In 2016, he was the sole flight surgeon for southern and eastern Afghanistan, supporting both the US Army and US Air Force during Operation Freedom's Sentinel. After his first deployment, he served as the flight surgeon for the third attack helicopter battalion. He created two Excel programs that are now used by FORSCOM and 4th Infantry Division, earning him an award for aviation achievement. He deployed to Germany a second time to establish medical operations for the combat aviation brigade. He has been nominated for fellowship in three prestigious organizations: the American College of Osteopathic Internists, the American College of Physicians, and the Academy of Wilderness Medicine. He is a certified simulation health educator (CHSE) who focuses on teaching about simulation implementation in hospitals. He authored 19 publications and presented for national organizations. He is passionate about academic medicine and training future doctors in America. He is currently finishing his MBA and his CPE designation. He is an assistant professor at three universities and a staff physician for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Pueblo, CO.
