Daena Creel

Daena Creel is a writer, archivist, and historian with a passion for “all things GLH.” Thirty years ago, an unexpected arrival from a mail-order book club set Daena on a journey of discovery that ultimately led her to become one of the foremost authorities on the life and work of Grace Livingston Hill. She has worked closely with the Hill family to preserve Grace’s legacy for future generations of readers and she particularly enjoys unearthing long-lost GLH stories.

How did this lead to a cookbook series? It was the everyday “doings” of Grace’s characters that inspired Daena to take up the study of early 20th-century American home life and culture. The Substitute Guest inspired her to re-create the wonderful Christmas meals enjoyed by the Devereaux family. Many meals and many vintage cookbooks later, Daena regularly adds new “old” recipes to the collection. In addition to more volumes of The GLH Cookbook, a Grace Livingston Hill biography is forthcoming.
