Linda M. Mutty

Linda M. Mutty was born in Westfield, Massachusetts in 1948 to an English war bride and a native New Yorker. Nine years later, her adventurous parents drove across the United States to their new home, San Jose, California. She grew up in the agriculturally rich Santa Clara Valley, a place that now only exists in her memories. Leaving what was becoming the Silicon Valley, she lived in Eugene, Oregon for 10 years, finally returning in 1983 with her two young sons to the valley she called home. As an educator, her work in the field of English encompassed elementary, middle school, and high school. Opportunities presented themselves and she said yes. As an elementary principal in what was now the Silicon Valley, her young family thrived. With one son off to college and another a year away from entering college, destiny took charge and brought into her life the love of her life. He lived in Carmel, California and she in San Jose. Long distance dating proved to be successful and she married. Moving to Carmel in 1997 as an empty nester, she continued her career as the head of a middle school while teaching English to amazing seventh grade students.

Retiring in 2012, she found her way back to her very first love, "creative writing". When she was an English Lit major, she made a promise to herself to write her first novel by the age of 35. Life took hold and she missed her deadline. However, as destiny has a way of doing, almost 35 years after that deadline, she fulfilled her promise. Her debut novel, Cadences, was published in August of 2018. Her second novel, A Stone's Throw Away, was published one month later. An Accurate Account, her third novel, was published in March 2022. A Fortuned Life and Not To Be Believed were both published in 2023. Conceived in 2018 and slowly coming to fruition, her sixth novel, Spheres, was published in May 2024. The Eighth Floor is her most recent novel published in 2025. In all cases, the fodder for her novels is a lifetime of memories held at bay while life took hold with all of its complications, challenges, and rewards. In composing these seven novels, it has become apparent to her that destiny is in charge. And for that, she is grateful. Her creative muse has not left her side; in fact, it is demanding that she dig deeper, see further, remember more clearly, and embrace the unknown fearlessly. And she is obeying.

With strong reviews for her novels, she is currently working on her next book, a stab at science fiction. Her poetry has been published in The California Writers Club Literary Review 2022, in the Redwood Writers 2024 Poetry Anthology, One Day, in The California Writers Clubs 2024 and 2025 publications of Vision and Verse, and in The California Writers Club's latest publication, The Smalls Too 2026.
