Ellen Wallace was born in Independence, Iowa, US, in 1951. She moved to Paris in 1979, fell in love with wine, travelled widely, worked as a news and culture reporter for magazines and newspapers (Time, Business Week, International Herald Tribune, CS Monitor, Cosmopolitan, European Travel & Life, France Today, etc.) on a variety of subjects, especially wine and travel. Urban life gave way to the Swiss Alps, lakes and their wines in 1985. She published and edited GenevaLunch.com from 2006 to 2016, an award-winning online daily non-profit community newspaper, and edited the English version of the definitive Swiss Wine Guide published by the Vinea Association, 2008-2016. She is the author of three books, with another to be published in 2019. Vineglorious! Switzerland's Wondrous World of Wines (2014), presents the rich landscape of Swiss wines. Two books now out of print: a style guide,The Fine Line, Communicating Clearly in English in an International Setting (1999, revised 2004); China, on the Ground (2006), about 20 years of change in China after an extended 1985 cycling trip across the country.
