Mauricio Abril is a recovering scientist turned author/artist who’s always on the hunt for a good pepperoni pizza. Once upon a time he graduated from UCLA with a degree in Molecular, Cell & Developmental Biology, but because apparently one Bachelor’s of Science degree wasn’t enough, he obtained a second one in Entertainment Design from the Art Center College of Design.
As an author, illustrator, concept artist and teacher, Mauricio's work spans the fields of video games, theme parks, children’s publishing and film. He has worked for clients such as The Walt Disney Company, Simon & Schuster, Coca-Cola, Universal Creative, Games Workshop, and Hasbro. He was recently featured on an upcoming episode of Road Trip Nation airing on PBS.
Mauricio can usually be found at home in Southern California working on his own storytelling projects which include children's books, animatic short films, and art.
He considers himself fortunate to have shared a family with a Cocker Spaniel, two Chihuahuas, a Dachshund, and a Labrador mix throughout his life.
