Reginald G Jackson likes to consider himself as an enterprising man. Having built up 'Beaky Blinders', his and his wife Pauline's chain of Racing Pigeon grooming salons throughout Lancashire and Yorkshire, he was at a loose end.
His very first book of rhymes '20 Slice of British Life' was published in November 2018.
This strange diversification from buffing beaks and fluffing feathers to penning rhymes came about as a result of numerous observations and thoughts he'd made over the years.
Reginald says that you get a lot of time to think and ponder over life as you rigorously, and painstakingly apply Notix powder (Carbaryl Dust 5%) to kill the ectoparasites (feather mites and lice) that gets carried on a top-notch, thoroughbred British Racer.
These birds may look a cut above their scruffy cousins that blight our streets, but, like most things of beauty, they need love, compassion and attention. These thoroughbreds are the elite of the avian world. They are sensitive souls too.
But the stress of all the pressures meant that Reginald needed an outlet...
At first he stored all the random thoughts in his head, then he says that his head got full. He then wrote them down in his 'Silvine' A4 exercise books - but they got full too.
He was reaching breaking point.......
Then his devoted wife Pauline suggested poetry...
Pauline is Reginald's rock of 40 years. He was once heard to say that 'what that woman can't do to ease the plight and suffering of a distressed and injured Red Check Jannsen following a Hawk attack is no ones business'.
Pauline, one day, after listening to a retired gentleman on Radio Lancashire reciting his rhymes, penned from his days as a part-time security guard at a local brewery, suggested that very seem route for Reginald. The security guard captivated Pauline as he discussed about how poetry helped him to escape his inner turmoil and soothe his chakras.
For 10 years now Reginald has penned rhymes in his, infrequent, periods of spare time. It may surprise the reader, but the Racing Pigeon industry in the UK is booming, as is Reginald's business. So spare time is a luxury.
His first book is a selected 20 rhymes that will resonate with many people who too are observers and thinkers...and perhaps moaners too!
