Sue Shellabarger Pettit

Sue Pettit was born 2/16/1945,and was with us until her passing on 10/8/2000. She was the mother of 3 girls; Ann, Maggie, and Mollie and a boy, Dan.

Sue had been an obstetrical nurse, a flight attendant, a certified massage therapist, had an undergraduate degree in Accounting and was a natural healer. Sue's healing power came from her total presence with whomever she was with, moment to moment. This was so powerful that when she died many of her women friends spoke out saying that her presence had been more powerful than anyone else in their life.

The story behind Sue writing the 65 pages of poetry that fills the pages of "Coming Home", over a weekend in December, 1984 is one of a heart filled with Gratitude. In the 18 months prior to the writing of this work, Sue and her psychiatrist husband, Bill had met the author Sydney Banks who had a profound experienced in 1973, during which he had realized the 3 Universal Principles at the source of creation and each person's personal experience. Sue and her husband began to have insights into the spiritual nature of life and these Principles of Mind, Thought and Consciousness. Sue and Bill's marriage soon became progressively more gentle and loving as they individually experienced more happiness and contentment.

It was in this context that Sue and Bill's second daughter Maggie joined the family as a third child on Dec 10 th 1984. Sue was filled with awe and gratitude for this new and beautiful addition to the family. It was over the following weekend that Bill noticed a pile of papers accumulating on the kitchen table. He had noticed Sue was often at the table writing when not attending to infant Maggie’s needs.

When Bill saw the many pages of poetry, he inquired about what was happening. Sue replied, "I am not writing these poems, they are coming through me. I don't even know what is coming next until I find myself writing them." The ensuing poems vary in length from 8 lines to 16 pages each filled with inspiration, gratitude, wisdom and hope for a more a more loving and peaceful life for all persons regardless of past painful experiences, present challenges and future uncertainties. This ordinary woman has from her deep love and gratitude created an extraordinary collection of poetry.
