I was born in Sonoma County, CA in 1932. We lived on a ranch with fruit trees and sheep; horses were a major pleasure for me. I graduated from Healdsburg High School in 1950 and then attended a Junior College receiving the AA degree with honors in June 1952. I had always wanted to fly and had a pilot's license followed by joining the Navy Aviation Cadet program. I arrived at Pensacola July, 1952 in the class of 31-52. My first picture is at a Pensacola beach at age 20 in fall of 1952. I completed flight training with carrier landings in the F6F and jet transition in the TV-2 and F9F-2. I was assigned to NAS Moffett field, just south of San Francisco, and joined VC-3. I later transferred to VF-194 flying the Banshee F2H-3. We left for a Pacific tour aboard the USS Oriskany, CVA 34 in February of 1956 returning in August of 1956. After returning from the cruise I married Lois Ann Heikens September, 1956. I was discharged from the Navy in November and applied to Stanford and was accepted graduating with the BA in Psychology 1959. I next applied to the Psychology Graduate Program at U. C. Berkeley and was admitted to complete the Ph. D. program in June of 1964. The University of Tennessee had a position in Psychology to which I applied and was offered a position as Assistant Professor fall of 1964. Here I was at the age of 32 starting what would become a career as a teacher and researcher in Psychology. I taught many classes which I enjoyed greatly, conducted research with rats and mice, gave papers at meetings, published scientific articles in journals, and wrote book chapters. I served as Department Head for 11 years and was elected president of the Southeastern Psychological Association. I published a small booklet titled A Conservation with William James in 1990. James was a long-time professor at Harvard and published The Principles of Psychology in 1890 my booklet was to honor him and his contribution to Psychology. I formally retired at the age of 65 but obtained a 3-year post-retirement contract which kept me busy in the classroom until 2000. Since then I have published several books of which the latest is about joining the east and west in harmony. The theme is that there will only be peace among countries when there is peace among religions. Professor Bill..
