Peter Dahlin (彼得达林) was one of the co-founders of ‘China Action’ in 2009, a small Chinese NGO that worked, until its forced closure in 2016, to develop a support infrastructure for Chinese rights defense lawyers, provide training for local ‘barefoot’ lawyers, and which numerous legal aid stations across China providing pro-bono legal assistance to victims of unlawful government actions.
Following Peter’s detention and placement into ‘Residential Surveillance at Designated Location’ (RSDL), and later his deportation on the grounds of the Espionage Law, he co-founded Safeguard Defenders, a pan-Asian human rights NGO supporting small civil society actors and which promotes and protects the Rule of law.
Peter now lives in Spain, after spending over a decade in China and Southeast Asia. He is the editor for "Trial By Media" and was a contributor to "The People's Republic of the Disappeared". His writing has appeared in the New York Times, the Guardian and other print media.
