Alex Sheen is a four-time TEDx speaker and the founder of because I said I would, an international social movement and nonprofit dedicated to the betterment of humanity through promises made and kept. Sparked by a tragedy in his life, Alex created a concept called the Promise Card and began mailing them to anyone who requested one, at no cost to them. Since 2012, over 9.81 million Promise Cards have been distributed to over 153 countries.
Alex’s unique perspective on accountability, commitment, and self-control developed from his responsibilities in leading a global effort about keeping promises, along with his personal experience in fulfilling his own promises. Alex once walked over 245 miles across the entire state of Ohio in 10 days, volunteered at 52 nonprofits in a single year, and has also ensured that 100 percent of his speaking engagement fees (over $1 million a year) go to charity.
Alex’s work has been featured on Today, Good Morning America, The Steve Harvey Show, the front page of Reddit, CNN, and many other programs. He is a very proud graduate of Ohio University, where he wants to give the commencement speech one day, but somehow Alex keeps getting beat out by other speakers. His plan now is to outlive all other famous people who have graduated from Ohio University. At that point, the president of the university will have no other choice but to choose him. Alex is also the kind of guy that starts to question if he should have asked someone else to write his own bio page. I mean, writing your own bio starts to feel pretty conceited, you know what I mean? But now it’s too late to ask someone else because the publisher is hounding me to get this thing out the door. Plus, I have to go to this meeting in like 5 minutes and I don’t have time for a redo.
Alex Sheen, he knows stuff.
