Apuk Mayen

Poet, writer, diplomat, Apuk Ayuel is the author of two poetry collections – No More Betrayals and Kindred. Based and born in Juba, South Sudan, and raised in Khartoum, Cairo, and Austin, Texas, Apuk writes on the experiences and expectations of a people and a country in transition from war to peace and introspectively on what is in between living and loving.

Apuk holds a BA in Political Science with a Minor in Anthropology from the University of Texas at Arlington, where she is and is currently an MPA Candidate. With extensive experience in public service, diplomacy, mediation processes, and women peace and security, Apuk’s areas of interest include peace-building, nation-building, access to education, culture, and literature. Apuk is the founder of Mankhoc Charities, an organization ensuring access to primary and secondary education for disadvantaged children in South Sudan since 2016.
