C G Metz

C.G. Metz was born in Longview, Washington in 1969. She began writing lyrics and poems in her early teens. After high school, she attended Portland State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree, with courses of study in elementary education, literature, writing, and art. She currently resides in Oregon City, Oregon with her husband and son.

Her first children's poetry book, "Upside Down: The Poems & Drawings of C.G. Metz," was released in late 2018, and has been well received. She attributes her desire to write children's poetry to her difficulty learning to read in her early years. "Reading was overwhelming and scary, and what made the difference for me was finding reading material that I could identify with, and was fun to read and listen to," she recalls. "I remember when my elementary teachers read Shel Silverstein's book, "Where the Sidewalk Ends" aloud, and when called upon, we could pick our favorite poem for the teacher to read to the class - I loved it! That's what I am striving for - to create material that makes reading fun for children...as it should be."

When reading C.G. Metz' book, "Upside Down: The Poems & Drawings of C.G. Metz," you will no-doubt see Shel Silverstein's influence in her work, but you will also see her own style of modern, funny and creative poetry that both children and adults will enjoy.
