Sukhpal Thind

My name is Sukhpal (Paul) Thind. I was born in a small village in India on January 1st, 1954 and moved to London in November 1965.

I have a Ph.D in Chemistry and worked in Minneapolis, St Paul at 3M from 1980 to 1984 and then moved to connecticut until 1985 before moving back to London. I have spent the last 30-years working in the financial markets as a trader, risk manager, and in product development with several institutions among them Deutsche Bank, UBS, ABN AMRO, HSBC and Forex Brokers - OANDA Inc and AxiCorp.

I have lived in Zurich, London, Toronto, Singapore, India, Honk Kong, Vienna and Sydney. I have travelled extensively.

I wrote Displace in 1998. It is mostly autobiographical and focuses on the process by which one relinquishes the past and country of birth and forges new life. It is the pretence or desire of humanity to be seen as good when in fact we are naturally not. The story is about racism, pride, murder, religion, love and hate and crime. Set in London and in India Displaced follows a thread that shows that we can be many torn personalities at the same time.

I started writing poetry at the age of 16. In fact as soon as I learnt English. Now I have published Rebirth, a collection of my poems from 1971 to 2019. Rebirth is published under Paul Thind.

Now, at 65 and retired. I am British and am passionate about Britain remaining in the EU. I have been active, primarily on social media in support of Remain. I have been thinking about the root causes of Brexit and have now written a short book titled English Brexit as I believe that the social conditions in England have led to the upsurge in nationalism. Brexit has revealed the subconscious of England.

As a scientist, I worry about the implications of Climate Change. In the context of the universe and our place in it, I am convinced that mankind is unlikely to make it.
