I never expected to write a book about alignment in the form of a story! The alignment part was obvious. It was the very thing that helped me to create and grow a thriving practice as a Holistic Kinesiologist from 2009 to the present day, despite the fact that most people don't even know what Kinesiology is (Holistic Kinesiology is not Human Movement).
As I started out in my business I began to attract wonderful clients online and by word of mouth. I constantly aligned to my business goals and found and released any internal blocks I had to moving towards these (which is part of what a Holistic Kinesiologist does). I started teaching alignment to other practitioners and heart-based business owners in an online group program in 2011 and have ever since in different forms.
I imagined I'd write a non-fiction book about how to create alignment, but when I started to write the book, I was surprised to find it coming out as a story. I have a strong connection to my intuition and guidance, so I didn't plan or structure the book in advance, I let it flow and wrote when I felt inspired to do so. As problems and issues came up for Anna, and she forged her path forward, I drew on all my experience in thousands of client sessions to ensure her journey was authentic and relatable.
As I was writing, sometimes I had no idea what I'd be writing next, or how it would come together. In fact, towards the end, it all felt quite chaotic, messy and unfinished, but then suddenly it all fell into alignment and completed with ease.
I liked the way this can mirror our business journey. Things can feel messy and we're not sure we're getting traction, but if we keep showing up and taking the right actions, we can reach a point where things really do start to click into place and we gain momentum.
I have been thrilled at the way so many readers tell me that they resonate so strongly with the main character, Anna, and how they see themselves and their own journey in hers. Anna is a coach, but people are telling me they're relating to her journey even if they have a completely different kind of business.
The book also includes a journaling element. So often we skim over that part of a book, ha! So I've been loving hearing about how many people have been taking the time to stop and reflect and the changes they've been feeling and creating as a result.
The book aims to guide you back to yourself and your own wisdom and to help you get true clarity on what you really want and how you can work towards that. For me, this is where our power lies. We can learn and gather knowledge, but when we're in business, ultimately we need to forge our own path. That means learning how to continue to come back into alignment as we're inevitably thrown off course by some issue or another. That's what the book teaches you to do.
I live in Adelaide, Australia, with my partner Shaun + young child Charlie. I started the book before Charlie was born. I wrote a good 20k words, got the cover designed, promo video made and lots of other details... and then took a break from the book of nearly a year once I had him. Interestingly, so much changed in the online world in such a short time that it was perfect to have the space and new perspective I gained from not being SO focused on my business as I had been before he arrived, and I made a number of changes to the book as a result.
What you really want in your business (and life) changes, so I hope you'll find my book serves you not just in the early stages of business, but as you look to re-establish alignment as things change throughout your entrepreneurial journey.
