Nilima Krishna Jayaraman MD

Nilima Krishna Jayaraman was born in India, in the state of Goa which was a Portuguese colony at the time. Her parents who were well versed in the Portuguese language and customs, emigrated to Dandeli, a small village in Western India, and that is where the author spent her idyllic childhood. Subsequently, she moved to the cosmopolitan city of Mumbai for her medical education.

She has been in the USA since 1977, making St. Mary's county her home. She is in full time practice of family medicine in Mechanicsville, MD.

Creative writing has been her favorite pastime for the past few years. She finds that her generation of women have faced major social changes, being born to home-maker moms and following a professional career like their dads. Trying to be faithful to this dual role model is often a tightrope walk. Add to this, the cultural diversity faced when moving to a new country and the major advances in technology in the past few decades and you have the makings of a colorful memoir.

As thoughts and memories wafted into her consciousness, they were faithfully transcribed and shared with friends and family. The Indian readers were intrigued by anecdotes from the US while American friends chuckled over vivid details of life on Indian streets. Young readers seemed fascinated by glimpses into the days of yore, while wizened souls got a kick out of descriptions of modern life.

The persistent urging of many such readers to compile these writings into book form has led to the birth of her first book: Falling Water, Rising Mist.

She is now so very excited about the impending birth of her second book: Gathering No Moss. This is a book that will transport you with her to exotic places around the world while at the same time taking you deep into human consciousness as she playfully takes you back and forth between inner and outer travels with wit and humor, as well as deeper reflections as your travel mates.
