Diana Diamond, Ph.D. is Professor Emerita in the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology at the City University of New York,

Senior Fellow and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Personality Disorders Institute at Weill Cornell Medical College. She is also Adjunct Professor of clinical practice at the New School for Social Research (part-time) and is Adjunct Professor New York University’s Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis where she did her psychoanalytic training, and is on the faculty of the New York Psychoanalytic Institute and Society. Her primary clinical and research interests are in developing psychoanalytic approaches to treating patients with personality disorders, with a particular focus on the impact of attachment status, the capacity for metallization and the level of pathological narcissism on the treatment process and outcome. She is co-author or co-editor of four books including Treating Pathological Narcissism with Transference Focused Psychotherapy (Guilford Press, 2021), Cinematic Representations of the Legacy of the Holocaust: Psychoanalytic Perspectives (Routledge, 2018) and Attachment and Sexuality (Routledge, 2007). She has published and lectured widely on the role of attachment theory and research in understanding personality disorders, assessing mental representation, gender and sexuality, and the application of psychological concepts to understanding narrative and symbolism in cinema. She is the recipient of several awards, including the research award from the American Psychological Association (Division 39), and most recently the Aaron Stern Distinguished Professorship lecture award from Weill Cornell Medical College in recognition of her contributions in further understanding of the etiology, pathology and treatment of narcissism. A graduate of Wesleyan University she also received a distinguished alumni award in 2020 for her scholarship and service to the University. She serves on the editorial boards of Psychoanalytic Psychology and Psychoanalytic Inquiry, is Co-Vice President of the Margaret S. Mahler Foundation, and is in private practice in individual and couple therapy and psychoanalysis in New York City and Sag Harbor, New York.
