Born in San Francisco, California, Nina Butorac studied Literature and Philosophy at Seattle University, earning her degree in 1979. She is a life-long Catholic and, as Outreach Director, has taught classes on the Sacramental Imagination, Philosophy, Catholic Social Teaching, the Primacy of Conscience, JustFaith, and other Catholic curricula at her parish in Seattle. For twenty years she worked as the co-director of Pan de Vida, a hands-on missionary project serving two orphanages in Mexico, and continues to serve as a Eucharistic minister at her parish.
Now retired, Nina remains active in social justice and Catholic ministry, working as a core member of the Washington State Religious Campaign Against Torture (WSRCAT.org), volunteering for Unbound.org - a global sponsorship organization - and as an active member of the Seattle Chapter of the International Thomas Merton Society.
Otherwise, she enjoys painting, sailing, and study.
