I have written three books and a great number of articles encouraging middle and high school teachers to use a more visual approach in the classroom. I worked for several years on a research project assessing basic visual thinking skills of students entering calculus and feel there is a need for students to look at and interpret graphs in their entirety starting before high school.
I have spent most of my life on the east coast with the exception of 8 years in Chicago where I got a MAT degree (Masters in Teaching) in Mathematics at the University of Chicago and a PhD in mathematics at the University of Illinois. I taught at Harlan High School in Chicago, then Albertus Magnus College and Central Connecticut State University while living in Connecticut, and finally at American University in Washington DC. I am married and have now three adult children. I am an avid bridge player and golfer.
