Matthew Cramer

I am Matthew Cramer, the author of Akeira's Journey; Travels through the Underground Railroad. I was born to a large family consisting of 7brothers and sisters. I am the second youngest and would often ask my mother why we never had children's books in our house. She always replied, "With eight kids you should have enough stories without me buying you a book!". But I've always been compelled to write and passed that trait on to my children as an adult. I was born and raised in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and educated at the University of Maryland with a M.S from Johns Hopkins University. After working as a technical writer, I began writing my first children's story in 2008.

Akeira's Journey is my first published work, which was created to help children's learn about incredible people in African-American history through the eyes of a child. I hope this adventurous story fuels the fire in youths to find out more about the many amazing heroes, both black and white in our country's history.
