Bin Xu

Bin Xu is Associate Professor of Sociology at Emory University. His research and writing interests lie at the intersections of culture, politics, and memory. His current research areas are collective memory, civil society, and politics of disasters. He is the author of three books: The Politics of Compassion: the Sichuan Earthquake and Civic Engagement in China (Stanford University Press 2017), which won two prizes from the American Sociological Association, Chairman Mao's Children: Generation and the Politics of Memory in China (Cambridge University Press, 2021), and The Culture of Democracy: A Sociological Approach to Civil Society (Polity, 2022).
