Stephen R Capps

Hello. I am Stephen Capps. I have long wanted to become a writer; however, as a father and family man with a full-time job, other priorities prevailed. Now that I’ve retired I longer have that excuse.

While I originally imagined storylines with science fiction and youth fantasy themes, along with thought-provoking essays, (all of which I would still like to pursue), my first published work was written to fill what I saw as a need.

Several years ago, I wanted to share the story of the Nativity with my family. I was surprised to find that apparently no one had written a book that gathered together all the Old Testament prophecies and New Testament accounts of the Nativity into one place, so I undertook it as a project. The result is my first published work—“This Shall Be A Sign: The Nativity of Jesus Christ”. It represents my attempt to seamlessly and reverently render the account of the miracles surrounding the birth of the Savior. The initial reception greeting this book has been overwhelmingly positive, which has encouraged me to continue work on a companion volume about Easter, as well as to consider other similar projects like the miracles and the parables of Jesus during His ministry.

It looks like science fiction, fantasy, and the essays may just have to wait.

P.S. If you have searched on the name “Stephen R Capps” you have probably come across a considerable number of geology reports written for the Department of the Interior and the US Geological Survey, written by a man of the same name—my grandfather! He also played an instrumental role in the creation of the McKinley (now Denali) National Park in Alaska.
