Judith Sara Gelt

Judith Sara Gelt didn't begin writing until retiring as a teacher at 55. She was born and remains in Denver, and her memoir, Reckless Steps Toward Sanity, takes place there during the 60s and 70s.

She finds joy when creating sentences on pages like those in books where she once lost herself while growing up. At first Judith thought she was writing a novel but noticed it was about her family members (only with different names), so she gave in and crafted memoir instead. That unleashed her passion, and when not studying the craft, Judith spent 8 to 10 hours a day, 7 days a week composing and revising.

Judith promised herself she would have a book on the shelf before turning 70, and though this was tongue in cheek, she accomplished her goal with 3 years to spare.

She finds the same passion for writing as she once felt when her teaching her students.
