Ratan Kumar was born in West Bengal in post independent India. He was graduated from Calcutta University and traveled all over India to know his country and his countrymen. He worked temporarily in some private schools. His main concern being vocal music and writing, he gave up job in school and devoted himself to writing and singing. Unfortunately, most of his earlier compositions have been lost as he had to change his destination at regular intervals. His first book "Side Effects of Infatuation" made him known to the readers of English literature. Recently he has been honored as one of the top 20 authors of South Asia for his story "Reward of selfless Service" in the grand Literati South Asian Award for Micro Fiction 2018, jointly organized by White Falcon Publishing (India), Dastan (Pakistan) and Outcast (Shrilanka).
